About Us
Johnny Walker Sealcoating is built on over 70 years of hard work, craftsmanship, and local pride.
The business began in 1954 as John E. Walker Sealing, earning a reputation across northern New Jersey for reliable paving and quality workmanship. As demand grew, the business expanded into sealcoating, continuing to serve homeowners and businesses with the same commitment to doing the job right.
In the early 2000s, the company was purchased by a local Hampton, NJ resident, where it continued to operate as John Walker Sealcoating, maintaining its strong reputation and loyal customer base.
In 2025, a new chapter began. The business was purchased by its current owner, who worked alongside the previous team. Through years of hands-on experience, he developed a deep understanding of the craft, the customers, and the responsibility of carrying a trusted local name forward.
Today, as Johnny Walker Sealcoating, we continue that legacy - delivering expert sealcoating, hot crack filling, and line striping with honesty, attention to detail, and pride in every job.
Built on decades of trust. Focused on protecting your pavement for years to come.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Most driveways should be sealcoated every 2-3 years, depending on factors like weather conditions, sun exposure, traffic, and overall wear. In areas with harsh winters or heavy use, more frequent sealcoating may be recommended to protect the asphalt and extend the life of your driveway.
-
For a new asphalt driveway, it’s best to wait 6-12 months before sealcoating. This allows the asphalt to fully cure and release oils, ensuring the sealcoat properly bonds to the surface and provides long-lasting protection.
-
Sealcoat typically dries to the touch within a few hours, but we recommend waiting 24-48 hours before driving on your driveway. Drying time can vary based on temperature, humidity, and sunlight, so allowing full cure time helps prevent tire marks and ensures a smooth, durable finish.
-
The best time for driveway sealcoating is late spring through early fall, when temperatures stay consistently above 50°F both day and night. Warm, dry conditions allow the sealcoat to cure properly and provide maximum protection.
-
You should sealcoat your driveway because it’s one of the most cost-effective ways to extend the life of your asphalt surface. Sealcoating helps protect your driveway from water damage, UV rays, oil stains, and cracking, while also restoring its smooth, black finish.
-
Sealcoating is applied using either a spray system or a brush/squeegee method, depending on the condition and layout of the driveway. This ensures even coverage and a smooth finish while fully protecting the asphalt surface.
-
Sealcoat typically lasts 2-3 years, depending on traffic, weather exposure, and maintenance. Regular sealcoating helps prevent cracks, oxidation, and water damage, ultimately extending the life of your driveway.
-
No - sealcoating is a protective layer, not a repair solution. Cracks and potholes should be properly repaired before sealcoating to ensure the best results. Sealcoating helps prevent future damage but does not replace structural repairs.
-
Rain can affect the finish if the sealcoat hasn’t fully cured. That’s why we carefully monitor weather conditions before scheduling your service to ensure optimal drying time and a high-quality result. If unexpected rain occurs too soon, it may impact the appearance or durability of the coating.
